So, my latest book on German general Hermann Balck is shortly available to buy but this only serves to remind me that it would have been impossible to create such a detailed and comprehensive piece of work without the professional help of an archivist. I was so lucky to stumble across a guy called Michael Herden who just happens to be a former German Army officer himself but now acts as a researcher and archivist within the vast Bundesarchives in Freiburg in Saxony. The expertise required to locate, sift and then transmit detailed information on individuals such as Hermann Balck is invaluable and also great fun as every new email brings the excitement of undiscovered information. I can recommend Michael to anyone.
