Before we move on from D-Day...

I just wanted to share this little cartoon that I stumbled across recently. I am going to post it on my Instagram site #doggeenbeach because it shows the former Supreme Commander of all allied forces in the west, General Dwight Eisenhower, as an old ghostly figure wandering through the crosses of the Normandy Cemetery. It seems to me that this quotation from Eisenhower was very prophetic - what was it that he saw in the world after 1945 that led him to worry about our future in this way?

Eisenhower had witnessed the rise of far-right politics in the world during the 1930's and we are living through the same now. The appearnace of MAGA in the USA, fuelled by the rhetoric of hate and division, spawned nurmerous followers across the world - Eisenhower was not naive and perhaps his warning was not for us but for his own country.
