About Me
I have loved writing from an early age and started writing letters to family in Poland when I was only seven and at school, English and History were the only subjects that I really understood. I joined the British Army at 17 and then decided that I wanted to study History at University which I did for four happy years at the University of East Anglia - at the same time I was commissioned into The Royal Anglian Regiment and served in a Territorial battalion for nine years.
It was teaching that excited me as a career and between 1984 and 1994, I taught History at Langley School in Norfolk before moving on to a Deputy Headship and then was Headmaster at Stover School for Girls in Devon from 1994 to 2004. The next ten years were spent in London as Chief Executive of the Montessori Schools Charity where I travelled up and down the UK supporting 800 Montessori schools and meeting some geat people and all over the world to promote the Montessori method of teaching. But throughout all these years I was thinking of and actually publishing books - some on the First World War and researching others. It was not until I fell ill in 2014 that I was able to deal with problems and people at work but also decided to retire early and tur to writing full time.
I like to books that educate as well as entertain so my style of writing is aimed at the person who wants to know more about a specific area but does not want to become bogged down - so far no-one has even told me that they could not finish one of my books and usually the feedback is that it was a great read from start to finish.
At the moment I am lucky to still have a number of history books to write but ideally, I want to move on to fiction. This year I have my new book on German general Herman Balck coming out in the autumn - 'Hitler's Forgotten General' and currently I am writing a biography of a very much alive former Bond girl and a biography of another German general - Erich Hoepner. Next year is also booked out (ha!) with a book on Roman Judea so maybe then I can start on my book of short stories !
